MCCRACKEN COUNTY — After rolling out for law enforcement on April 1, the upgraded E-911 radio system for Paducah and McCracken County became active for fire departments on Tuesday.
The Reidland-Farley Fire Department officially went live on the system around 6 a.m. on April 7. Assistant Chief Jody Melton spoke with The Sun shortly after the department returned from its first call using the new radio system.
“We were able to talk to everybody with handhelds, because we don’t have anything in our vehicles yet, so we’re strictly on them right now. Everybody heard us great,” Melton said. “We went on at 6, Hendron went on at 7, Lone Oak went on at 8. Paducah, they just went on between 9 and 11. Then I believe it’s Concord, West McCracken and Melbourne that finishes up this afternoon. Then everybody’s completely switched over.”
